Iceland

The Land of Fire and Ice

Halló, Hello!

Welcome to this fan site for what I think is one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

Iceland was formed around 25 million years ago, which makes it one of the youngest land masses on the planet. But do not be fooled by its' young nature, as it is a country of great geological contrast. Also known as “The Land of Fire and Ice” Iceland is home to some of the largest glaciers in Europe, and some of the world’s most active volcanoes. Iceland is also the land of light and darkness. In the summer it has extremely long days with almost 24-hours of sunshine. This is contrasted to the short winter days with only a few hours of daylight - providing excellent opportunities to see the Northern Lights in all their wonder and glory.

Not only is Iceland rich in natural beauty, but also in history and culture. The country was first settled by Norsemen from Scandinavia and Celts from the British Isles in the 9th and 10th centuries, who established the first parliament.

Since Iceland was settled in the 9th century, writing and music have been an integral part of life. Fashion and film have also come to the forefront in recent years. However, what keeps the Icelandic landscape so beautiful is that it remains largely uninhabited, as more than half of its' 320,000 inhabitants live in the capital city, Reykjavík.
